Monthly Weather Reports Note
There
will be a subtle change in the layout of future Monthly Weather Reports and
Annual reviews.
Essentially
they will remain the same, however more information about wind directions
and speeds are to be included.

18 May
Rainfall
good, Sunshine and Temperatures poor.
The
month of May so far has provided above average rainfall for the second month
in a row but, sunshine hours and temperatures have been poor so far.
Temperatures
are nearly 3c down compared to the last 7 years at the station, whilst
sunshine is only just above 40% for the month.
The
forecast for next few days suggest their will be an improvement in the
latter elements with more sunshine and much warmer temperatures set to
arrive.

11 May
Recent
rains re-addressing balance?
Plenty
of rain has fallen over the last 30 days or so, in fact upwards of over
200mm, some 8 inches. This is helping to replace any shortages in the
reservoirs.
It
also means that for the second time in a row the monthly rainfall average
has been exceeded here at Chepstow.
In
addition, the total expected rainfall for the Spring period,
March to May has already been reached and
is positive.

4 May
April
Review
A very
unsettled final quarter enables April 2012 to become the 4th wettest in the
last 100 years.
Sunshine
and temperature levels were both disappointing and well below average.
It was
notably windy on the 29th with some branches and trees blown down.

28 April
Rainfall
and temperature
With over
32.7mm falling in the last 4 days we now find ourselves in an unusual
position of having an above average month for rainfall.
As
reported on the 22 March in an earlier bulletin, this would now indicate
that only 4 of the last 27 months have had above average rainfall dating
back to January 2010.
---
Temperatures
for April have not been particularly good with many days recording lower
than average.
Indications
are for possibly the coolest April in over a decade.
